Ocarinas are among the earliest wind instruments found across the Americas, with examples dating back thousands of years. Traditionally made from natural clay, these small flutes were used in many Indigenous communities for ceremony, storytelling, teaching rhythm, and marking important moments. Their simple design—an air chamber, mouthpiece, and finger holes—made them both accessible and versatile.

The artwork on these modern ocarinas is inspired by visual themes commonly seen in Indigenous art of the Southwest and Plains regions. While meanings vary across cultures, certain symbols appear widely:

Coyote, wolf, horse, and turtle reflect lessons about resilience, guidance, mobility, and connection to the earth.

Sun, moon, and desert landscapes represent natural cycles, balance, and the relationship between people and their environment.

Thunderbird and Kokopelli are well-recognized cultural figures associated with strength, protection, music, and celebration.

Today, ocarinas continue to be appreciated for their unique sound and cultural significance. Each piece combines ancient craftsmanship with contemporary artistry, allowing modern players to experience an instrument rooted deeply in the history of the Americas.
